THE YOGA OF SERVICE
At Breathe, we strongly believe that our practice should include the yoga of service - karma yoga - and have made a commitment to use our studio to raise funds and visibility for a variety of deserving and, where possible, local non-profits, charities and causes.
We seek to raise funds through a variety of means, holding free community, donation-based classes, yoga malas, collecting items for organizations such as Faith In Action and the Safe House of Ann Arbor, participating in local events and donating our time and teaching skills, and through our mat rental fees.
Be sure to join our mailing list for the latest information on the next Breathe Gives and more.
BE A WARRIOR FOR CHANGE: BECOME A KARMA YOGI
Information Meeting: Saturday, February 10th, 2-3pm at Breathe Yoga
At Breathe, we strongly believe that our practice should include the yoga of service - karma yoga - and have made a commitment to open up our studio to raise funds and visibility for a variety of deserving and, where possible, local non-profits, charities and causes.
We seek to raise funds through a variety of means, holding free community, donation-based classes, yoga malas, collecting items for organizations such as faith In Action and the Safe House of Ann Arbor, participating in local events and donating our time and teaching skills, and through our mat rental fees.
In addition, we are delighted to announce the launch of another arm of our program - KARMA YOGIS - that aims to engage our students and instructors in useful service to support our two chosen and very deserving causes, Faith in Action and The United Methodist Retirement Community. Students will be able to sign up to be on a list of those willing to serve the community as volunteers, when and where needed by our community partners. Many of our students volunteer individually for local causes, but we'd like to try to provide a steady flow of support if we can to our favorite non-profits and groups in need.
This Information Meeting will be attended by members of both Faith In Action and The UMRC who will each outline their needs, and their volunteer requirements, and there will be an opportunity to get active right away and sign up! Any students and instructors unable to attend this meeting but who are interested in participating should contact Sue Whitmarsh at firstname.lastname@example.org or via phone on 734 680 9072.

Thanks to the generosity of our students, Breathe Yoga was able to donate more than $2,000 in 2016 to a variety of non-profits in our community and beyond. Through programs such as our Breathe Gives donation classes as well as our first Solstice Festival in collaboration with Robin Hills Farm, we have positively impacted a dozen non-profits, ranging from the Humane Society of Huron Valley to the United Way of Chelsea, as well as national organizations such as the Seva Foundation and DAV (Disabled American Veterans). We fully intend to continue and improve on this success, offering more Breathe Gives classes, bringing back our Solstice Festival (details to come) and from January and continuing on, all of our mat rental fees will be added directly to our non-profit fundraising for each month. Thank you for your generosity and willingness to help - let's continue the good work in the year ahead!
